When testing this I used a bronze pickaxe to ensure that the success chance was not altered by the pickaxe (as bronze has no effect). Given that they are both using the same pickaxe. In addition to this with a low mining level you will also find that it is possible to mine the ore, at the same speed as a person with level 99 mining. So what chance factors? As you can see from the data about they where pretty much constant, if I was to use the same pick axe and mine copper ore 50 times I would get the same value (with 70 mining), so this clearly shows that after a particular level has been achieve, against the rock difficulty, the variation is reduced so much that it is negligible and does not effect the tick, hence you always getting the ore with the same number of ticks. From this you can see that whilst using a rune pickaxe and mining copper at level 70 mining the timings where as shown in seconds 1.1s 1.2s 1.1s and an average of 1.15s, the ticks are calculated based on the fact that 1 tick in runescape clock time is 600ms so 1.1/.6 = 1.833r, but as they are cycles it is not possible to get that value and taking into consideration human error the value of ticks would there for be 2. So my conclusion on that is ignore that comment because it's complete bullshit as it has no mathematical rigour.Īs for the proposal of the statement, which talks about the effect that pickaxe's have on mining times I have collected the following data. The error in this is that it doesn't state when to start timing and when to stop. It simply states that you can mine an ore (doesn't state which type) every 3 ticks. This does not apply to rune essence, which comes more frequently than this, or to using a dragon pickaxe, which can mine ores at varying times. With a rune pickaxe or inferno adze, there is a chance to mine an ore every 3 ticks.
